Kenna is prolific in drawing, as it is therapeutic in nature, and offers continuous challenges. Inspiration is everywhere, and sought often. When inspiration is not so obvious, Kenna creates exercises to engage her pen to the paper.
She likes to allow the pen to touch the page with a random line, letting that line inspire the process of evolution that will lead to the subject. Subject matter most often evolves into movement patterns likened to botanicals or ocean patterns. Occasionally these patterns are metrical or mechanical, but still fluid in most cases.
Arbitrary lines are her most favored subject although they can also be lines accenting the main subject. These lines are found in most every place, and due to their nature are rarely predictable even in their same family. So water can splash a million times and still provide new patterns.
Kenna carries her drawing supplies almost everywhere she goes. Drawings are done during meetings, waiting for appointments, quiet times, and noisy times. These drawings gather and spread until it is overwhelming at which time they are gathered and sorted according to their nature. Some drawings may be completed in one sitting while other complex patterns require many different times to achieve completion.
While many drawings are achieved, only a select few will make it to the table for enlargement. Depending on the drawing and it's focus the work is greatly enlarged at the copier to meet the size of the under painting. Less than 10% of the drawings make it to enlargement.
Once the drawing is matched to the selected under painting, transferring begins. The selection of matching these two elements are basically intuitive. The transferring is completed on an oversized light table using a choice of mediums. Occasionally Kenna will use markers or textured paints like textile paints, but most often the favorite is basic crayons. The crayons work as a resist, in addition to another layer in the project.
